Your EV can power your home and the grid

With a bidirectional charger and Amber's V2G automation, your electric vehicle does more than drive you around. It charges up with your solar or when energy is cheap, powers your home, and supports the grid while earning you money along the way. We estimate Amber customers with access to wholesale energy rates can save up to $2000-$2500 per annum on their energy bills. *Assuming solar and no home battery.

Home battery on wheels

Power your home with excess solar or cheap, renewable, grid-sourced energy just like you would with a home battery. EV batteries are generally much larger than a typical home battery, meaning when you plug-in you get even more of the benefits a home battery would offer.

Maximise your bill savings

By charging your EV with free solar or during low-cost periods, Amber allows you to generate earnings by selling back to the grid when prices spike. Our automation lets you take full advantage of wholesale pricing while your EV sits in the driveway.

Smart EV automation that puts you in control

No minimum plug-in times. Turn automations on or off to suit your home. Set a 'ready by' time for your car so you know it'll have the charge you need, say 70% by 8am. You stay in full control of your EV battery, with your car ready when you need it and Amber’s technology in app to support you maximising your earnings when it’s parked.

A V2G capable EV - BYD Atto 3 and Sealion 7 currently supported and warranted

A compatible V2G charger (join the ARENA program to access our charger rebate)

A subscription with Amber to access our V2G technology

WAYS TO ACCESS V2G WITH AMBER

There are two options for accessing V2G with Amber. You can join our ARENA program for early access to the app and a discounted charger, or BYO charger and join the waitlist to access the open beta product.

ARENA Program - Discounted V2G charger
Join the ARENA program as an eligible customer and get a rebate on a new charger and installation. This option is available if you have an EV eligible for the program (or you’re looking to buy an eligible EV). Joining the ARENA program also gets you priority access to Amber’s V2G technology.

If you already have a charger and want to get started with V2G, join our waitlist for an invite to the beta product. This works if you already have a V2G charger or an EV that is not eligible for the ARENA program.See below for the list of compatible chargers

How to Join the ARENA V2G Program

Amber has partnered with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to run the country's largest V2G rollout. With BYD warranting vehicles for V2G use, we're discounting the cost of the charger hardware for eligible customers who sign up - so you can get on board from as little as $2990*

What's included:

  • A discounted V2G charger through an authorised installer (you must be purchasing a new charger to participate in the program) - StarCharge Halo currently $2,990 incl. GST (single phase 7.4kW charger. + standard install), $4,490 (three phase 11kW charger + standard install)
  • A warranty exemption to use V2G with an eligible EV (see list of eligible vehicles below)
  • Early access to Amber’s V2G app

How you’ll help grow V2G in Australia

The program will run for a minimum of 12-months starting from the date of onboarding.

That means:  

  • You’ll stay with Amber as your energy retailer at your supply address for at least 12 months
  • You’ll participate in research activities with our partners (surveys, and possibly interviews or diary studies)
  • You let Amber share anonymised data with ARENA for public reports on the program

How to Join

  • Check you're eligible - You either own an eligible vehicle, or you’re planning to buy one for the program. See below for participating manufacturers. (Amber have partnered with BYD to offer an exclusive discount on new eligible vehicles)
  • Site assessment and quote from an Amber authorised installer
  • Accept the quote and install the charger  
  • Sign up to Amber to onboarded to the V2G App to get onboarded into our V2G program
  • Plug in and start saving. SmartShift takes it from there.
