There’s a rebellion happening in homes across the country.
Aussies are ditching power plans from traditional retailers. They're charging their batteries when energy is cheap. Selling it back when prices spike. And taking control of their energy, with smaller bills and faster payback.
We’ve launched a new campaign to celebrate this shift: Australians are Revolting, a tongue-in-cheek nod to the everyday Aussies taking a calculated stand against overpriced energy – with solar and batteries on their side.
The first phase is rolling out in South Australia under the banner South Australians are Revolting - a line you might have already seen around town, heard on the radio, or caught during the footy.
And we’re kicking off the campaign in SA for good reason.
South Australians are spending the highest proportion of their household income on electricity in the country, at 3%. And the reality is, this percentage can be much higher for lower income households, rising well above 10%. The average annual bill in SA sits at around $2,300, despite South Australians earning less on average than most other states.
So it’s no surprise people in SA are fighting back. Not with signs or slogans, but by installing solar panels, adding batteries, and using tech like Amber to take control of their energy and reduce their bills on their own terms.
In fact, South Australians are in the best position of any state to make battery economics stack up. With a volatile wholesale energy market and the right tech on their side, they can buy low and sell high, accelerating battery payback and slashing energy bills. For example, during the recent June price spikes, Amber customers in South Australia enjoyed feed-in tariffs of up to $21/kWh at times. That’s hundreds of times more value than the Default Market Offer in South Australia.

If all of this sounds as exciting to you as it does to Amber, it’s good to know there's never been a better time to buy a battery than 2025 – with federal grants now lowering the upfront cost of batteries by up to 30%.
The even better news? More home batteries means more renewables in our grid and cheaper energy for everyone. And it’s not a rebellion confined to South Australia. It’s already spreading across the country. But don’t wait for a traditional energy retailer to tell you. They’re more than happy for the energy grid to stay expensive. So do like our campaign says and “Join the Revolting” - invest in solar and battery and use Amber’s smart technology to pay it off fast.
