FAQs
1. Can I switch to Amber if I live in an apartment and/or rental property?
Yes! You may need a smart meter installed in order to see your detailed energy usage data in the Amber app. If you haven’t got one already, we’ll get one installed at no additional cost to you. You may just want to let your landlord or property manager know that the meter will be getting upgraded.
2. Why is there a subscription fee?
Unlike other energy retailers who charge a mark-up on the energy you use, Amber makes exactly $0 on your energy usage. We’re so committed to our mission that the $15 subscription fee is the only revenue we generate to run the business.
3. How does the price protection work?
We pass through wholesale prices to customers directly which is typically significantly cheaper than the Government’s Default Market Offer (their reference price for power) over time. When there are price spikes, you'll get a notification so you can shift to greener, cheaper times. If for some reason you do still pay more than the DMO, we'll make sure you get the extra credited to you at the end of the year.
