About the Role

You'll be our first hire in our People Operations Team. Your mandate is pretty simple - make us an ever better place to work.

Until now, our people functions have been handled directly by managers - and we've been incredibly fortunate to build an exceptional team who combine excellence in their roles, passion for having an impact on customers and the environment, and a commitment to creating joy at work.

To take the next step in our growth we need to invest even more in our people and talent, and to increasingly build leverage in our day-to-day process. We aspire to bring millions of Australian homes on the journey to move Australia to 100% Renewable Energy. To do that, we know that we need to build a team that:

  1. Performs at an incredibly high level
  2. Loves what they do
  3. Reflects the incredible diversity of Australia

Building this team, and maintaining the culture that lets us do the best work of our lives, is the responsibility of everyone, but will be the overwhelming focus of this role.

Key Responsibilities

Define, create, and improve amazing employee experiences. You'll be responsible for working out:

  • How do we make new-starters - from wide varieties of backgrounds and starting points - feel welcome and supported even before they walk through the (virtual) door?
  • How do we best set people up for success, how do we help people do the best work of their lives with us?
  • How do we develop people over their journey with Amber? How do we create and grow great managers who build great teams?
  • How do we eliminate friction in all areas of our employee experience?

Define the process and technology stack we need to run our People operations, and drive the procurement process, from application tracking to payroll and benefits administration

Work tightly with recruiting teams (both internal and external) on building out our talent pipelines and process

See around the corners in regards to building and maintaining an incredible and inclusive culture as we scale the team

About You

Key Requirements

You know what great, high performing teams look like. You have 3+ years across people operations or as a generalist at great organisations, ideally including time at fast growing startups / scaleups

You are an exceptional and empathetic communicator - able to understand where different people are coming from and build trust.

You are dedicated to creating scalable and robust process at the big picture, and to getting the details right everyday.

You are a terrific influencer - you work closely with managers and the executive team to drive better outcomes

This is a full time role based in Melbourne. Due to Covid, we mostly work from home, with one to two days a week catching up in a coworking space in the CBD. We expect to remain Melbourne based but maintain flexibility between the office and working from home.

We're open to part-time or flexible time arrangements for the right candidate.
